SOMETHING ABOUT WORKSHOPS
There is something to be said about doing workshops.
Since my last update, ten days ago, I have done two workshops at libraries. The first one, which at first I wasn't
going to mention, but thinking about it, I think it's necessary, could be called an utter failure. I advertised it, the
library advertised it, and still in the end, I ended up with only a single teenager taking the poetry workshop I
was running that evening. According to the Teen Event Librarian, there was a guest speaker at the local high
school that evening which the students there were encouraged to attend. It is unfortunate, but what are you
going to do? The way I see it, it's a learning experience. There are going to be workshops I'm going to run that
only a few kids are going to come to. I have to take the good with the bad sometimes.
Now, the other workshop was much better, I had six kids (yeah, I know not a big crowd). We had a good time
writing our poems, and the kids really did get something out of the workshop, and hopefully they will go to the
Poetry Slam the library is holding next month and read the poems they created with me. And, the best part
was, the librarian there was so impressed, she is going to bring me back and she is purchasing some copies
of my book for the library. So... go me!!!!
Now, I am going to be doing a workshop at Collingswood Book Festival in about two weeks. I am pretty much
guaranteed to have a few dozen kids and their parents. So, we'll see what happens.
I would like to add that, things are looking up for me. So far, I've sold quite a few books, and these next 13
weeks are looking quite busy for me as far as my book is concerned. I'm pretty much doing something book
related every weekend from now until December 4th, with only one or two weekend exceptions. I will be
reporting as they come. Expect a nice update after Baltimore Book Festival next weekend. To see where I'll be
appearing and what I'll be doing, check out my EVENTS page.
Until Next Time: I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts!
