WORKSHOPS and UPDATES
Yeah, I know, I haven't updated in nearly a month. And it is no excuse, but I have been incredibly busy. I've
had some personal issues to deal with, which I will not bore you with, but more importantly, I have finished my
first, and now my second drafts of High School Heroes: Book II. It has a title, but as of this moment, I am not
revealing it. I have also done some other minor things for promotion. I have used VistaPrint, whom I must say,
offers a great many deals on their products. I got 250 new business cards, 140 mailing address labels, 100
postcards and 50 magnets, and my grand total was about $18. This is because I took all the "FREE" deals
they had to offer on their site and only paid shipping (which was still more than it actually cost to ship, but if I
were to have all this stuff made at Staples, it would have cost well over $100.) So, you know I'm not one to be
an advocate for a company, because this is not what this blog is all about, so merely take what I said as a
simple suggestion. Also, if you have a better way, please contact me, I'd love to check it out.
Anyway, the other thing I've been working on recently is setting up some workshops. It's the teacher in me,
that thinks this is an excellent idea. Doing workshops can lead to other things with a bookstore or library, such
as a book signing, or them stocking some of your books. Either way, it will get you some exposure, and
hopefully lead to a few more sales in your pocket.
The workshops don't have to be too difficult. As a matter of fact, I suggest, if you are trying to start a
workshop, that you make it as simple as possible (to start anyway). Also, make sure the workshop you design,
is geared for your target audience Since High School Heroes, is geared toward the young adult audience, my
workshops target the preteen/teen audience. The workshops I have developed so far (and don't get too
excited because I'm not going into deep detail as to what I'd do at each of these workshops) are: Poetry,
Creating a Character, Journaling, and Short Stories. Each of them would be unique and would run from 1 to 2
hours, depending on what the venue wanted. Also, having multiple workshops means that if the first one goes
well, they may invite you back to have another.
I plan on going back to VistaPrint and having more postcards made detailing these workshops, when I'm
ready. What I'm not sure about yet is what to put on the front of the postcard. I'm thinking my book cover, once
I get it. I think that would be best, that way they can see I am an author and do know what I'm talking about. I
plan on detailing all the information of the workshops on the back, along with my contact info.
By the way, oh loyal readers, if you haven't done so already, check out and sign my Guestbook. You know you
want to.
