WRITING GROUP: FIRST MEETING

So, last night I attended my first meeting of the Life Journeys Writing Group. We met in the local library, and we talked about all
things related to writing. One of the members did a presentation on journal writing, which I thought was very interesting. Though,
I must admit, that the only thing I use my little journal for is writing the ideas I get for a story I am, or will soon be working on.

I have to admit, I really did like this group. About twenty people showed up, and as I said, we talked about things having to do
with writing. Then a few members, myself included, shared some of their work. I shared a chapter from
High School Heroes,
which everyone seemed to like, and it gave me that little boost of confidence you feel when you get complimented on something
you worked hard on.

The point is, as I said before, writing groups are a great way to get your work out there. Whether it's to promote yourself, or to get
yourself critiqued, it is a wonderful place to go. One of the members of Life Journeys found me over the summer, even though
this was the first meeting I attended, and asked me to come by. I would have gone sooner, but scheduling conflicts just wouldn't
allow. That's not the point though - even though I was asked to come, you could go in search of these groups yourself. Many
have websites you can go to, and if not, they usually post meeting announcements on bulletin boards at the bookstore or library.
I suggest just doing a search for "Writing Groups" and whatever your area is (Example: Upstate New York, Virginia Beach, Los
Angeles) and then find out when the meetings are and simply show up. Yes, if you want to be polite, you can always ask first.

I had such a good experience at the writing group. I think you will too. Give it a try. If you really are into your writing, which I'm sure
you are, otherwise you wouldn't be reading this, then I'm sure you will enjoy yourself. And you might even get something out of it.
