FIGURING IT OUT
I never used to really think it was important. I always thought keywords were the way a search engine found your site. While it
remains the "key" way sites like Google, Yahoo!, MSN, and Bing use to find websites, it isn't the only way. The web page
description is very important and should be written for every page on your site. Search engines also utilize these to find out what
the site is about and if it is something the searcher is looking for. It also is a contributing factor once it pops up in the search
engine in that the description shows up for the searcher to see and can determine whether or not they actually click on your site.
So, I have been busily going back through each of the pages on this site, while adding new content, to add a page description
for each page. This should help increase the traffic I get for my site. By how much? I don't know as of yet. That will be the topic
for another entry on my blog.
My next step is going to be submitting this blog to what is known as a "Blog Carnival" which is sort of a central hub website
where many blogs are submitted. This will help drive traffic up on this website by people who are interested in what I have to
say. Again, how much remains to be seen. But I have already submitted this site to several categories on BlogCarnival.com, so
we will see what happens.
To find a blog carnival, simply go onto a search engine and search for "Blog Carnival". Make sure you use the quotes, or I
guarantee you are going to get other "Carnival" websites you really don't want to be on. Make sure that you submit to the proper
carnivals though. You don't want to submit to a World War II blog if your blog is about fairies living in the rainforest.
