Dr. DePasquale, crisis intervention counselor at East Islip H.S., NY. He had helped me through some of
the worst times in my life as a teenager. He gave me hope when I thought there was no light in the future.
Thanks Dr. D!!!

When I was in middle school I had the opportunity to be a hero to two people. My first experience happend
on a hot day. I was at gym and all the students had the choice of going outside or playing basketball
inside, so I was going back in forth from the field into the gym. As soon as walked in the gym I saw legs
inside of the basketball holder, so I moved closer to it and realized that someone locked the midget in the
basketball holder, so I had to pull her out of it. I another incident happened in the school hallway. I was on
my way to lunch and I saw one of my classmates being stuffed in a locker by these boys. When the boys
left I went and got the boy out of the locker. The boys name was Lawrence. He was really short, but not as
short as a midget.

I attend Bowie State University. My high school hero was my Biology and A.P. Biology teacher. His name
was Quentin Metzgar and he was the one who got me interested in Biology. He also helped me through
high school with his encouraging words of wisdom. Another high school hero is my 10th grade English
teacher Tyler Williams. The main reason why he's my hero is because he is dyslexic and learned to read
by writing words and looking at them in the mirror. This makes him a hero to me because he conquered his
weakness and turned it into a strength by becoming an English teacher.

I am a student in New York. When I was a freshman I stopped one of the seniors from picking on one of my
friends in the lunch room. I think I was a hero that day because my friend is really small and that makes him
a target for alot of the big kids. Even though the senior was much much bigger than I was, I think I was able
to stop him just because I showed I wasn't afraid of him, even though I was. At first he didn't back down, but
by me standing in his way he couldn't hurt my friend.
