COMICS

I hate not being able to get online. But since I travelled to NY for the holidays, I have to make due with what I've got. So, instead of
forcing my parents to buy a wireless router, I come to Borders so I can feed my laptops internet addiction. So, essentially, my
updates are going to be infrequent for the next week and a half or so.

That aside. I am working with a new artist now on another comic for High School Heroes. The comic is going to be a
submission for
Zuda.com, which is DC comics monthly online comics competition. The way I see it, if this gets submitted by
March, then it might actually appear on Zuda.com when my book is set to come out. Then, not only do I get paid for having the
comic on their website, but it is free promotion for the novel.

So, we've already gotten started on this. As you can see my artist, Scott
Blocker, has already sent over a sketch of Christine. I know I've been
going for a more cartoony look for most of the other drawings, but I
think this works. I think going with a more realistic looking drawing might
do some good.

Finding an artist can be tough, especially if you don't have the money to
pay them. Now, I am going to do the coloring, because I am capable
and because my own artistry is free. But most writers will need to find
both an artist and a colorist. This can get pretty expensive. I have actually
hired an artist and colorist to do a few pages of another comic I created
as part of a submission package. The five pages they did, which are
located in the Island of Dren, section of my website, cost me almost five
hundred dollars to get done, and that is on the extremely cheap side.

What I've been doing now, is scouring the
Deviantart and PencilJack
websites for good artists. It isn't easy, especially when you want to find
someone who will work for nothing but pages to put in their portfolio.
If you are looking to get artwork from someone, and make it be pretty
cheap or free, I am going to suggest making the project small. Luckily,
Zuda insists that all the comics submitted to their site are exactly 8 pages
long. I think that an 8 page comic is the perfect length for a short project.
It isn't something that will take forever, and it is something that people can
get aboard on. And don't get me wrong, I fully plan on paying Scott when
and if this comic ever makes it on Zuda, which, taking a look at these sketches, is a good possibility.

As we get work done on this, I will keep you updated. And I haven't forgotten about the book trailer. In another week and a half,
we will begin working on that with my students again and I will have all the updates for you. So, keep checking back. Exciting
things happening.
