BALTIMORE BOOK FEST
So, it was a cloudy rainy morning when my wife and I left to drive the hour or so up to Baltimore. I already knew I should have
stayed in bed, but I didn’t. The rain must’ve driven people off, because there weren’t many people at the festival (It could’ve been
the fact that the Baltimore Ravens were at home too and everyone was at the game).
So, it was a little disappointing. I sat there all day, leaving around 6pm, and only ended up selling 5 books. However, I do have to
say, that I did learn something.
I was prepared for the event, I thought, but as it turned out, I wasn’t. I brought with me, 100 postcards, 100 booksmarks, 100
magnets and 100 samples (free chapter of my book). Even though there weren’t many people there, I had given most of them
out before two hours was up. There is nothing more disappointing than having nothing to give to a potential customer to entice
them to purchase your book and knowing there is really nothing you can do about it. Now statistically they say that it is about 5 to
10 percent on items you give out that will translate into sales. Since I pretty much was only able to give to a little more than 100
people (since most of them took everything), that may only translate into 5 more book sales over the next couple of weeks. So,
from here on out, I am determined to have more than enough materials to go out there and use to entice people over to my table
and to purchase my book.
So, Baltimore was a learning experience. From here on out, I WILL be prepared.
Next weekend is Collingswood Book Fest, where I will be running a poetry workshop and selling books. We’ll see what
happens. Then I also have the Holiday Shopping Spree at the Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department. Hopefully I’ll sell some
books. I’m always hopeful.
Just a quick note. To help myself keep track and to show you all what I’ve been doing, from here on out, my blog will have a
running total of books I have sold. So, for this entry, I have sold 5 at the festival, plus the 13 to friends and 1 to the Saint Mary's
County Library. So, here it is so far.
SOLD BOOK TOTAL: 19
Until next time - Never talk to strangers! Actually, if you're an adult... always talk to strangers. Lots of great conversations can
come with people you don't know.
