JAVA SCRIPTS COFFEE AND BOOKS
I don't know if this qualifies as a review. I really don't want to put reviews up on my site. So, if this is one, then it isn't intentionally
done so.
If any of you know me, you know that my wife and I usually spend many an afternoon and weekend sitting in the cafe at Borders
Books. Even though it can sometimes be crowded, I find it my spot to relax and concentrate on my writing. I don't have any of the
distractions I have at home, TV being the biggest of them, so I can really get into the flow and get those all important words
down on paper (well, computer screen).
However, at my meeting this past weekend of Life Journeys Writer's Group, I was told about this new little coffee house that's,
maybe 15 - 20 minutes from where I live called "Java Scripts Coffee and Books". And, I have to say, that when I first walked into
this place, I knew it would be a fit for me. It is quiet, and intimate, unlike Borders, and the owner, Carlette, is a very nice woman,
who really seems to take care of her local authors.
She has a small bookstore, which is not much more than a small room off the main cafe area, where she features author's
books, and also sells used books. It is a great little place and I highly suggest if you're in Southern Maryland, to come and check
it out. However, if not, I'm sure there are places like this one near where you live.
Anyway, Carlette, also runs many writer's workshops and events for authors. She is going to actually have a Children's Author's
event next month that I plan on attending. I don't know how it will be, but I also know that I'm going to have nothing to compare it
to. But I still plan on checking it out, and see what comes of it. Worst thing that happens, I get some kids look at me like I'm
crazy. But crazy still sells books - sometimes.
I suggest trying to find a small place like this to try and seel your books. I mean, it might not necessarily be a coffee shop. Maybe
there is a used book store in your area, or even a local library that hold events for local authors though. This is a place you want
to become familiar with though. It is another outlet for your work, and if you can sit and get a cup of coffee, I say its even better.
By the way, just gotta say, she makes a good cup of Chai Tea. And I love my Chai!
Anyway, don't know when the next update will be. My students are finishing up the book trailer. So maybe I'll be able to post that
video on the site with my next update! I am excited for it and while I sat in while they were doing the shooting, I have to say that it
looks like it may work out well.
Until next time... May the Force be with You!
